In order to improve P removal from wastewater with a low specific filter surface per people equivalent (p. e.), different materials have been tested: man-made and natural materials, industrial by-products, and a mixture of these materials. The P removal by natural apatite have been studied by a very few works. Despite apatite materials appears to possess high and long-term retention capacity, a better knowledge is needed to precise the quality of apatite to be used and the P removal evolution with time and water quality. In this work the P retention kinetics have been studied in two different scales (lab-experiments and pilots) on different apatite qualities. Retention rate in pilots is smaller than the one found in labexperiments and the results suggested that a security coefficient might be applied while designing apatite filter.

Removal efficiency of nitrate, phosphate, fecal and total coliforms by horizontal subsurface flow-constructed wetland from domestic wastewater
Background: Constructed wetlands are systems designed based on the utilization of natural processes, including vegetation, soil, and their associated microbial assemblage to assist in treating different types of wastewater. Methods: Two local Appalachian plants (Louis latifolia and Phragmites australis) were planted into smallscale constructed wetlands to treat domestic wastewater in the North ...

Constructed wetlands have not been commonly used in Vietnam due to the lack of information in the selection of proper types of constructed wetlands, type of reeds, design parameters and performance efficiency, in tropical climates. This paper focuses on Canna generalis, which is a common reed and easy to grow both in water and wet land conditions. Two kinds of hybrid constructed wetlan...

Background: There is growing interest in the natural and constructed wetlands for wastewater treatment. While nutrient removal in wetlands has been extensively investigated, information regarding the degradation of the pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) has only recently been emerging. PPCPs are widely distributed in urban wastewaters and can be removed to some extent by the con...

The use of constructed wetlands is a relatively new technology but the system is gaining popularity due to its low tech system for treating wastewater (DeBusk, 1999b).Constructed wetlands have found to be effective in treating domestic wastewater where municipalities are concerned with reducing suspended solids, organic matter, phosphorus, nitrogen, and pathogens. Constructed wetlands mimic nat...
